Single Deck versus Multiple Deck GamesWhy is it that a single deck game is better to play than the multiple deck game? This is such a common question, frequently asked by many blackjack players, maybe because the reason is not that obvious; that is why most blackjack players are confused. One of the major reasons is for this simple point: The player will be dealt more blackjack hands in the single deck game than they will in the multiple deck game. Imagine a player taking a single card deck and then shuffling them, and after shuffling the cards selecting one card. Do you know the probability that the player can pick an ace? Normally, in a single deck of cards there are four aces; the player's chance of picking an ace will be 4 out of 52. After the player picks the ace he is left with 51 more cards to pick, with 16 value-of-ten cards. 16 cards count as tens; four kings, four queens, four jacks, and four tens. There will be the ratio of 16 out of 51 to pick a ten in the deck of cards. If the player multiplies these two ratios given above, they will compute the probability of picking up the ace and then followed by a card with ten-value; this is about 2.41%. (4/52) x (16/51) = 2.41% All the same, the player could easily pick the card with ten-value and then pick the ace. Hence, the totality of the odds of picking up the blackjack hand in a single deck game is two x 2.415, that is 4.82%. In translation, this is a blackjack out of each 20.72 hands; this is an important statistic in the game of blackjack. In a 6 deck game the player has a chance of picking out the ace as the first card is 24 out of 312. Chances of picking the ten-value for the second card are 96 out of 311. The player has to multiply, again, the two ratios, and they will get a 2.37%. If doubled, the player will get 4.47%; that is less than the 4.82% probability of getting a single-deck blackjack. In summary of the single deck game: 1) The player will be dealt with more blackjack hands than the multiple deck game 2) The dealer is less likely to have a blackjack hand as well, which is a tie, or "push". 3) The players are more likely to pick a good card when they double down on 10 and/or 11 These are the reasons why the single deck game is better to play than the multiple deck game. |
